Bridge Building 101

Instructor Meredith Branch
Age Range 8-10
Schedule Tuesdays, Block 2, 12p – 1:15p
Description No more toothpicks and glue! We will use the K’NEX Education Intro to Structures: Bridges set to introduce students in grades 3-5 to the history, function, structural design, geometry and strength of bridges while providing opportunities for them to acquire skills using a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to information and concepts. Time allowing, we will build 13 fully-functioning models of real world structures including suspension, truss, and arch bridges. Learning to work in a group is a major component of the class; students will work in teams of 2-3 to complete each bridge project. Inquiry-based lessons included with the K’Nex kit challenge students as they build, investigate, problem solve, discuss, and evaluate scientific and design principles in action.
Important Notes None.
Prerequisite Students should know how to read and write.
Homework None.
Parents Parents are welcome.
Class Cost Members: FREE. Non-Members: $100
Material/Lab Fee Depending on how many kids sign up, I may need to ask each family for $5 to buy another K’Nex Bridges kit.  This kit will then be donated to Cascadia for future.
