Our Whole Lives: A Holistic Health Class

Instructor Ericka Rhodes
Age Range 11-14 yrs
Schedule Wednesdays, Block 2, 12p – 1:15p
Description This will be a continuation from the winter term of the Our Whole Lives Curriculum. This is a sexuality education class. This term we will focus on relationships, contemporary issues (such as social media), and responsible sexual behavior. Our Whole Lives helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.
Important Notes None.
Prerequisite Students need to have a basic understanding of sexuality, anatomy and physiology as related to sex systems, general knowledge of what happens during puberty, and an understanding of the spectrums of gender identity, sexual orientation, biological sex, and gender expression.
Homework Homework will be discussion starters.
Parents I will encourage students to share information gained during the class, but given the intimate discussion topics I will not inform parents unless for a safety reason. I will offer a parent introductory meeting prior to the start of the semester if there is interest in doing so.
Material/Lab Fee No fees.
